Youth Direct
Our Youth Direct project pairs young accordionists, ages 12 to 18 with seasoned musicians who play other instruments. The youth and his adult partner choose two songs which they rehearse together before performing at the awards ceremony. One of the songs must be a traditional Rake’n Scrape or Goombay. The second song can be in the genre of their choice.
The purpose of this competition is to give our young accordionists a first-hand experience of working with professional musicians who are also pole bearers of our national musical genres. It will provide them with the opportunity for direct transmission of how to perform on stage in front of a live audience.
The recipients of the Frank Williams Youth Direct Award will receive cash prizes as well as a studio recording contract.
If you are interested in piloting or financing this project please contact Diana Hamilton at bahamasacordion@gmail.com or (242) 812-8768.
